TESTEX is an international and independent Swiss testing and certification institute. We focus on testing and certifying textiles and leather products.

TESTEX is a traditional Swiss company. It was established back in 1846 as the ‘Zurich Silk Conditioning Institute’. Today, the company employs more than 400 staff at around 45 locations worldwide.

The TESTEX Group is a founding institute and accredited certification body of OEKO-TEX®. We are the official OEKO-TEX® representative in Australia, Canada, PR of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland and Taiwan.

TESTEX – a traditional Swiss company

1846

Silk manufacturers found the Zurich Silk Conditioning Institute at the Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten carpenters’ guild.

1890

The company expands its range of services and inaugurates a new chemistry laboratory.

1929

The Great Depression: Zurich’s silk industry crashes and the company starts diversifying.

1932

The company moves into the new building at the current head office at Gotthardstrasse 61 in Zurich.

1939

An independent staff welfare foundation is set up.

1970

The Zurich Silk Conditioning Institute changes its name to TESTEX AG.

1993

TESTEX AG joins the OEKO-TEX® Association and begins testing textiles to meet human ecology requirements.

1995

TESTEX AG opens a branch office in Hong Kong.

2013

TESTEX AG and the Austrian company OETI merge to form the TESTEX Group.

2019

Digitalisation of the TESTEX Group.

2021

OETI moves into its new head office in Vienna’s Liesing district.

These goals for sustainable development were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.
