Information for manufacturers
The TESTEX label stands for the safety of a tested mask.
The label is intended to create trust and give the general public the opportunity to make a conscious decision in favour of a textile mask which has been tested according to the current recommendations.
A listing of the tested masks, specifications, as well as details regarding sales outlets can be found here.
The Community Mask is a tested textile mask that provides protection against infections. It is washable and reusable.
The Community Mask is not an FFP mask or a medical mask. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) have published a document with FAQ in connection with all three types of face masks. The Community Mask falls into the category “Other Masks”, where the “TESTEX Community Mask” label is also listed as a recommendation. It is designed to be worn by the general population in public spaces. It thus provides the protection recommended by the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force, particularly protecting others against infections. The mask is a supplementary protective measure. The general rules of hygiene and conduct of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) must be followed.
TESTEX evaluates community masks on their filter function, splash resistance, wear comfort, reusability and additionally, their innocuousness.
The mask is washable and can be reused. Comfort is further assured through good air permeability.
> Air permeability: <70 Pa ± 3 / cm2 (ISO 9237)
> Splash resistance: no penetration of liquid according to EN 14683: 2019 + AC: 2019
> Particle filtration efficiency: FE ≥ 70% at a particle size of 1 micrometre
> Colour fastness to domestic washing (ISO 105-C06)
> Colour fastness to perspiration (ISO 105-E04)
> Colour fastness to saliva (DIN 53160-1)
> Dimensional change max. < +/-10% (EN ISO 3759 / 5077 / 6330), ≥ 5 cycles or according to the manufacturer's data at ≥ 60°C
> STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® : free of harmful chemicals and safe for use
The Community Mask is washable and may be used multiple times
> Wash the mask at ≥ 60° with heavy-duty powder detergent before you first wear it
Together with partners, TESTEX has refined a testing procedure that evaluates community masks based on the recommendations of the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force, the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, and on their convenience and reusability.
Together with Empa, TESTEX has refined a testing procedure whereby textile masks are being evaluated on their filter function, splash resistance, wear comfort, reusability and additionally, their innocuousness.
The Swiss Textiles College (Schweizerische Textilfachschule) established the parameters for comfort and reusability in cooperation with the protective mask taskforce and TESTEX.
Mask design
The masks must be designed such that the nose, mouth and chin are covered. They should ensure a tight fit at the sides.
