Building reconstruction in the basement of TESTEX AG Zurich

In September 2009 the enlargement of the basement started at TESTEX AG headquarters, Gotthardstrasse 61 in Zurich, where the company has been situated since 1932. The basement was modified to significantly increase effective floor area and at the same time create a recreation room.

Supervised by architect Renato Rosinus, the former cellar was reconstructed in only 3 months to enlarge the TESTEX laboratories extensively. TESTEX AG can now expand capacities within their laboratories and carry out specific test procedures even faster, thanks to the extension. In the room which was formerly used as a cellar, a wooden floor was removed, a new concrete floor was cast and new wiring was laid. The room was then separated into a recreation room on one side and the laboratory complex on the other side of a dividing wall.

During their breaks and lunchtime, all employees of TESTEX AG can use the recreation room which contains 32 seats with tables and a kitchen including three microwaves and a commercial dishwasher. Furthermore, the room can be used for seminars, due to a permanently installed beamer and a modern sound system. As a result of the reconstruction, the effective area in the basement was extended by 160m2 of which 104m2 are laboratory ground. The reconstruction of the building did not have any direct effect on order fulfilment for clients? the operations of TESTEX AG were carried on without restrictions during the whole renovation. The new laboratories were put into operation in March 2010.
