From a young age, we use leather products in all areas of life – from baby play rugs made of sheepskin to footwear, sophisticated designer furniture, and seats in aeroplanes, trains and cars. Reliable verification that leather articles do not contain any harmful substances, such as the allergenic Chrom-VI, represents a valuable decision-making tool for all consumers.
In 2018, the OEKO-TEX® Association endeavours to provide further targeted support on issues relating to consumer protection and sustainability throughout the textile value creation chain. The existing guidelines of the OEKO-TEX® product portfolio were updated on 02 January. The new regulations come into effect on 01 April 2018 for all certification systems and other services, following a three-month transition period.
Zurich (mh/hm) At the end of June, the OEKO-TEX® Association published two supplements to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 to add to its already existing product portfolio – an updated version of the already existing Supplement for “Special Articles”, and a new Supplement for “Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Materials for PPE (as well as for military garments and uniforms comparable with PPE)”.

Swiss-based textile manufacturer “E. Schellenberg Textildruck AG“ is yet another TESTEX costumer to introduce the comprehensive certification system “STeP by OEKO-TEX®“.
Zurich OEKO-TEX® is taking a leadership role at the upcoming Planet Textiles 2016: The Sustainable Textiles Summit on May 11 at the Copenhagen Concert Hall in Denmark. OEKO-TEX® is a sponsor of the Planet Textiles event and from 11:45-12:45 will present “Driving Transparency, Traceability, and Sustainability in the World’s Most Complex Supply Chain.”
Made in Green is the OEKO-TEX® label for textiles, which are sustainably produced and tested for harmful substances. Each item certified with Made in Green features a unique product ID or QR code. This enables consumers to trace the product transparently across the supply chain.
The six month pilot phase with manufacturers has been successfully completed. The results were very positive and the first certified textile chemical producers have already accessed the key benefits of the new ECO PASSPORT concept.
After the expiry of the usual three-month transition period, the test criteria and limit values for OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 that were published at the start of the year came definitely into force on 1 April 2016.
