In 2018, the OEKO-TEX® Association endeavours to provide further targeted support on issues relating to consumer protection and sustainability throughout the textile value creation chain. The existing guidelines of the OEKO-TEX® product portfolio were updated on 02 January. The new regulations come into effect on 01 April 2018 for all certification systems and other services, following a three-month transition period.
Safe in terms of human ecology and yet sustainably produced: these criteria are becoming increasingly important to consumers when buying home textiles. With MADE IN GREEN, OEKO-TEX® offers a label that transparently communicates these product qualities at a glance.
Climate change appears to be a bigger concern for consumers than recent media reports may have indicated. In the ground-breaking, global, quantitative consumer survey, “The Key to Confidence: Consumers and Textile Sustainability—Attitudes, Changing Behaviors, and Outlooks”, commissioned by the OEKO-TEX® Association in commemoration of its 25th Anniversary, climate change ranked third on a list of sixteen modern day worries on the minds of today’s consumers.
The label will be added to men’s dress shirt lines marketed under PVH’s iconic CALVIN KLEIN, TOMMY HILFIGER, Van Heusen, IZOD, and ARROW brands, along with well-known designer brands licensed by PVH, the world’s largest dress shirt company.
From 2017 onwards, producers and suppliers of leather goods can also have their products certified to be tested for harmful substances by the International OEKO-TEX® Association. The basis for the certification is the new LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX®, which was launched during the annual meeting of the General Managers of the OEKO-TEX® institutes in Ostend, Belgium at the start of November.
