Round Robin Tests

Round robin tests conducted regularly are an important monitoring tool both for a certified quality assurance system and for in-house solutions. In particular, round robin tests with international participation are becoming increasingly important with the advance of globalisation. Round robin tests help to bring to light systematic sources of error and can give rise to the necessary corrective action.

The benefits in brief:

  • increases confidence in the test results and their informative value
  • builds confidence vis-à-vis customers and suppliers
  • cost savings due to fewer tests
  • supports the in-house quality assurance system

We have organised round robin tests for many years in the fields of yarn, colour fastness, fabric properties and function, and have been accredited under ISO 17043 since 2011.

If you have questions, please send us an e-mail to rrt@testex.com.

We are pleased to offer you the following round robin tests:

Yarn Round Robin Test

Downloads

This round robin test has been in existence since 1983 and thus provides the foundation for the current range of round robin tests.

In the Yarn round robin test five cones, mainly of cotton in counts of approx. Ne 30 to Ne 110, are dispatched by TESTEX once a year (see annual schedule) and can be tested by the participants with regard to the following parameters:

  • count
  • twist
  • tenacity/elongation
  • CRE type (20 sec., 500 mm/min, 5000 mm/min), Lea Test and Tensojet
  • evenness (capacitive and optical)
  • hairiness (count and index)
  • coefficient of friction

Each participant can submit results for evaluation from up to four test instruments per test criterion within a stipulated time. The test results are recorded centrally, quoting a laboratory code, and thus evaluated anonymously in a comprehensive report. An example of an evaluation can be found under Downloads.

Participation costs CHF 350.– per annum. The application form and an example of evaluation can be found under Downloads.))

Colour Fastness Round Robin Test

The TESTEX Colour Fastness round robin test was brought into being in 2000; production laboratories, institutes, universities and manufacturers of dyestuffs and equipment worldwide take part.

The following colour fastnesses are included in the round robin test:

  • Fastness to washing, ISO 105-C06/C2S
  • Fastness to washing, ISO 105-C08
  • Fastness to perspiration, ISO 105-E04
  • Fastness to water, ISO 105-E01
  • Fastness to rubbing, ISO 105-X12
  • Fastness to dry cleaning, ISO 105-D01
  • Fastness to light, ISO 105-B02
  • Paper pattern for visual and/or colour measurement assessment

Six test specimens for each of the above-mentioned fastnesses are dispatched to each participant three times a year (see annual schedule). Since both single-fibre and multi-fibre fabrics are permitted for fastness to washing, perspiration and water under the relevant ISO standards, each participant is provided with sufficient material to enable both versions to be tested. Furthermore, the grading can be stated according to the conventional method, i.e. visually using the grey scale, and/or using a colour measurement instrument. Further data such as the name of the testing instrument, instrument settings (parameters such as temperature and humidity in the sample room for fastness to light) and testing solutions (e.g. type of washing powder) are also requested and listed in the evaluation. The test results are recorded centrally, quoting a laboratory code, and thus evaluated neutrally in a report.

Participation costs CHF 300.– per annum. The application form and an example of evaluation can be found under Downloads.

Fabric Properties Round Robin Test

The Fabric Properties round robin test, in which production and quality laboratories, testing and research institutes, universities and equipment manufacturers worldwide take part, has been offered since 2005.

Samples are dispatched annually (see annual schedule) for the following tests:

  • Fabric weight and fabric construction
  • Tensile properties – strip method, ISO 13934-1
  • Tensile properties – Grab method, ISO 13934-2
  • Tear force – Elmendorf method, ISO 13937-1
  • Tear force – Schenkel method, ISO 13937-2
  • Tear force –Flügel method, ISO 13937-3
  • Bursting strength and bursting distension, ISO 13938-2
  • Seam slippage strength, ISO 13936-1 and ISO 13936-2
  • Abrasion resistance, Martindale method, ISO 12947-2
  • Pilling propensity, Martindale method, ISO 12945-2
  • Pilling propensity – pilling box method, ISO 12945-1
  • Dimensional change in washing, ISO 5077/6330

Each participant is free to choose which tests to conduct and submit for evaluation within a stipulated time. The test results are recorded centrally, quoting a laboratory code, and thus evaluated anonymously in a comprehensive report.

Participation costs CHF 800.– per annum. The application form and an example of evaluation can be found under Downloads.

Function Round Robin Test

The Function round robin test, in which mainly testing institutes participate, was brought into being in 2010 in response to current demand for a round robin test featuring tests relating to the physiological behaviour of clothing.

The following tests are currently included in this round robin test:

  • Resistance to water penetration, ISO 811
  • Water-vapour resistance, ISO 11092
  • Thermal resistance, ISO 11092
  • Permeability to air, ISO 9237
  • Colour measurement, background material, EN ISO 20471:2013
  • Electrostatic properties, EN 1149-1 and EN 1149-3
  • Protective clothing; protection against heat and flames, test method for limited flame spread, ISO 15025

The materials for testing are dispatched annually (see annual schedule) and consist of widely differing qualities, according to requirements, but are always typical examples resembling practical conditions as closely as possible. Each participant is free to choose which tests to conduct and submit for evaluation within a stipulated time. The test results are recorded centrally, quoting a laboratory code, and thus evaluated anonymously in a comprehensive report.

Participation costs CHF 500.– per annum. The application form and an example of evaluation can be found under Downloads.
